Nordic Walking Bracknell
I got into Nordic Walking in 2010 after a serious back injury late 2009. I found it was such a gentle yet powerful rehab tool that I took a course and qualified as a Nordic Walking Instructor.
There are many benefits to Nordic Walking, but the main ones are weight-loss, upper body toning, posture re-education, and reduced loading to most major joints (eg ankles, knees, hips, back etc).
It suits my Physiotherapist thought process very nicely. After all, what is the first goal for anyone who has been in hospital? To get back on their feet and simply walk, whether it be with a Zimmer frame, elbow crutches, or walking sticks. Nordic Poles are the next step for people, yet they are not included in regular Physiotherapy settings. Not yet at least! Research is being done to assess their efficacy, and when the benefits become clear, we could well start to see rehab classes one day. That's my hope at least.
I have instructed a couple of my neighbours recently for health and well-being purposes. One has Parkinson's Disease, the other is recovering after heart trouble, respiratory problems, and a bad back. They are both enjoying it, and have lost some weight, which has been a wonderful side-effect to what can be considered no more than walking at their own comfortable pace.
