A personal favourite of Matt’s is Nordic Walking, which fits in well with the remit of physiotherapy for all ages and levels of fitness. It is an easy-for-all-ages hobby that increases fitness and stamina, reduces strain on the back, hips, and knees, has a much lower injury rate than other physical hobbies such as jogging.
It tones your whole body, flattens your tummy, strengthens your core muscles, relaxes your shoulders and neck, reduces stress, and the clincher – almost doubles the amount of calories you burn when compared to normal walking.
All you need are a couple of walking poles and to enjoy walking in the fresh air in nice surroundings. Brilliant if you already regularly walk the dogs (off the lead) in decent park or woodland, or enjoy rambling – no routine change needed.
