Sports Massage at Elgar Physio

Sports Massage is the use of massage to treat and prevent sports injuries. It can form part of your training and injury prevention programme, your rehabilitation programme, and be used as a warm-up for, between, and cool-down after, your sporting event or hobby.

Sports Massage from a qualified Sports Massage Therapist (also Chartered Physiotherapist in my case) can help speed up healing, reduce recovery times, hasten your return to activity, and prevent future injury. Post-event massage cleans out toxins and waste/lactic acid from muscles, reduces stiffness, and increases recovery time.

Sports Massage breaks down adhesions in and between muscles. It increases flexibility. It increases and maintains peak performance. Stretching, trigger point work, soft tissue release, and joint mobilisation are among the techniques used.

Most of the larger Football Clubs use Sports Massage Therapy before, during (i.e. half-time), and after a match. It keeps them on top of their game. In fact most sporting events are attended by Sports Massage Therapists. I sometimes work in the business sector, for example, at Corporate Charity Triathlon days at Dorney Lakes, Berkshire. All the Triathlon competitors receive a quick post-triathlon deep tissue massage.

In case you are wondering, or nervous about clothing removal, I can reassure you that your dignity is ensured throughout. I always leave the room for you to get ready. Only the limb or area being massaged is exposed; the rest of the body is covered fully by towels. If someone is still apprehensive, I am completely happy for you to bring a chaperone along (Mum, relative, friend, etc).
